Overview
This page gives installation instructions for the FrontPage MenuPlus components.
Before any add-on components can be used in FrontPage they must be installed. Installation consists of copying the component files
to the correct folders and then activating them (making them known to
FrontPage).
The supplied Install program copies the files to their correct folders, but
activation requires you to carry out a few simple manual steps. These are
described below.
The FrontPage application must be closed before performing the installation
(both Explorer and Editor if running FrontPage 98 or earlier).
Downloading and Installing
- Download the installation file to your computer. The file is
called MenuPlusxx.exe,
where xx is the version
number.
.
- Double-click on the file to start the installation process.
.
- Click on the Setup button to run the Install program, then follow
the instructions.
Activating
The components are activated as follows :
FrontPage 2000
Activation with FrontPage 2000 is very simple. Just open a disk-based
web and choose Recalculate Hyperlinks from the Tools
menu. MenuPlus components will then appear in the Additional Components
dialog box (Insert | Component -> Additional Components)
FrontPage 98 / FrontPage 97
With these versions of FrontPage, a few more steps need to carried out to
activate the components:
- Make sure the web server is installed and running.
If you have not installed the Personal Web Server when installing FrontPage
then
install it now using the custom set-up options. FrontPage requires you to open the root web
(which also requires the web server to be running) before activating the components.
.
- In FrontPage Explorer open an existing <root> web
(for example, the personal web) or create a new root web.
The <root> web is the FrontPage web that is provided by a Web
server by default. To access the root web, you supply the URL of the server without
specifying a page name or sub-web. FrontPage is installed with a root web named <Root
web> or Personal Web. All FrontPage sub-webs are contained by the root web.
The activation process will not work by opening a web on disk or a sub web of the
server. It must be the <root> web in which case the web address
will show something like http://fred:8080 (or http://fred)
rather than c:\fred (which is a disk based web) or http://fred/myWeb
(which is a sub web). However, once completed the components will become available for all
webs on the disk.
.
- In FrontPage Explorer select the Tools | Recalculate
Hyperlinks option.
.
- The web server can be disabled if not required any further.
Upgrading
If you are upgrading components from a previous version then simply :-
- Shut down the FrontPage application (both Explorer and Editor if using
FrontPage 98 or earlier)
.
- Extract the files as detailed above and re-install, thus overwriting the previous
version. There is no need to perform component activation again.
